The basic premise of the book is that a freighter ship filled with boxes of new robots sinks in a hurricane. Many boxes sink to the bottom of the sea, a few wash up on the shore of an island only to be broken up and destroyed against the rocks, and one arrives safely on the shore of that island and is accidentally activated by a family of curious sea otters. What happens after that is completely unexpected.
This is a great story of how a robot adapts to life on an island with no people, and how the animals on that island adapt to her. Themes of friendship, trust, and what it means to be truly alive are offered in the midst of an exciting, funny and touching story.
This book is in the Room 204 library. It is available from Lowell's Pollard Memorial Library as well.
